Kim Schifano, M.A., CCC-SLP, owner of Carolina Speech & Myo Therapy, is an ASHA certified Speech Language Pathologist, with over 23 years of clinical experience. Kim is dual licensed in NC and SC, and is certified in SPEAK OUT!® Parkinson voice therapy program, VitalStim® therapy for swallowing, Infant Feeding Counselor (IFC), and Orofacial Myofunctional therapy. Kim attended Purdue University in Lafayette, IN, where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Audiology and Speech Sciences in 2001, graduating with honors and highest distinction. Kim obtained a Master of Arts degree in Speech Language Pathology at Indiana University in Bloomington, IN in 2003.
Over the course of her career, Kim has worked in a variety of clinical settings, including inpatient rehabilitation, outpatient rehabilitation, home health, assisted living, skilled nursing, memory care, and private practice. Kim has experience in treating a multitude of medically-based diagnoses, including traumatic and non-traumatic brain injury, stroke, Parkinson's disease, dementia, Alzheimer's Disease, Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI), encephalopathy, concussion, TMJD, orofacial myofunctional disorders, ankyloglossia (tongue tie), and sleep disordered breathing/sleep apnea. With our pediatric population, Kim specializes in orofacial myofunctional therapy, infant feeding therapy, and articulation therapy. After going through breastfeeding challenges and airway issues with her own children, Kim developed a passion for supporting families through the myofunctional therapy journey and the pre/post-op tongue tie release process, Kim is devoted to finding root cause of dysfunction, working with a collaborative team of professionals in the community, and helping each of her clients achieve their maximum potential. When Kim is not busy treating clients, she enjoys spending time with her family and watching her sons play sports. She also loves hiking, yoga, movies, audiobooks, taking lots of CE courses, hanging out with friends, and snuggling with her Australian Labradoodle, Max.
