Speech Therapy Services

speech therapist evaluating a client with Dementia
Speech therapy for children with language delays
Feeding/swallowing therapy for infants/toddlers
Carolina Speech & Myo is committed to providing quality speech therapy services to a wide spectrum of ages (infants, toddlers, school-age, teens, adults, and geriatrics).

SPEECH THERAPY FOR KIDS (and babies too!)
Speech therapy for our school aged clients incorporates academically-relevant material and activities into therapy sessions, aiming to optimize communication, build independence, and foster positive self-esteem. We also believe that clients are most motivated to work when having fun, so we include many types of therapy-related games into our sessions. With our toddler population, we are all about moving our bodies, having fun, and using play based techniques for optimal participation in therapy sessions. We serve many infants with feeding and swallowing concerns, breast and bottle feeding issues, and tethered oral tissues (TOTs). We have a specialty trained lactation/infant feeding counselor on our staff, and have extensive experience with pre/post operative frenectomy care. We work closely with IBCLCs, OTs, PTs, and body workers in the community to best support our young clients.

Carolina Speech & Myo offers pediatric speech therapy for a multitude of childhood concerns, including:
  • articulation disorders (trouble pronouncing certain speech sounds correctly)
  • language delays (difficulty understanding spoken language or delayed vocabulary development)
  • fluency (stuttering therapy)
  • Orofacial myofunctional disorders (targets muscles of the face and tongue for improved speech, swallowing, breathing, and sleep.)
  • Pediatric feeding and swallowing disorders
  • Picky eating
  • Tongue thrust
  • Thumbs Up!® (30-day thumb sucking elimination program)
  • infant feeding and swallowing disorders
  • ankyloglossia ("tongue tie")

SPEECH THERAPY FOR ADULTS
We also offer therapy for adults and geriatric clients, including those who have suffered acute neurologic impairment, such as a stroke, brain injury, concussion, postoperative amnesia/confusion, or seizures, and those living with other chronic neurological impairments, such as Parkinson's disease, mild cognitive impairment, dementia, or Alzheimer's Disease. Intervention for our adult and geriatric clients provides them with the opportunity to gain new skills, regain lost abilities, and fine-tune current abilities. Our adult clients are actively involved in developing meaningful therapy activities and choosing therapy materials in order to maximize functionality and therapeutic benefit.
